Osler Library Collection of Medical Almanacs
A list of the Osler Library Collection of Medical Almanacs can now be found on our web site. Dating from 1841 to 1977, the almanacs were published in Canada, the United States and occasionally England. One hundred and eighty three items may be searched on the Access database under author, title, date and place of publication. The collection was purchased from a Montreal collector and provides a glimpse of popular publications aimed at the general public extolling the virtues of materials ranging from gin pills to Sunlight soap. Recipes, horoscopes and advice fill the publications, with graphics aimed at enticing the reader.
