David Leslie Philip was born in Vankleek Hill, Canada East. As a student, he was listed as coming from Brantford, Canada East. He graduated in medicine from McGill in 1861. He was one of the best-known practitioners in the province of Ontario, but owing to a stroke of paralysis, he did not practice for the last two years of his life. (Canada Lancet, v. 38, p. 1128, 1905)
